The Michigan Ice Fest has developed a diversity program in cooperation with Black Diamond Equipment and Michigan’s Outdoor Recreation and Industry Office to provide opportunities to access our programming to underserved people and communities, breaking down barriers to participate and creating routes to pursue climbing as a lifestyle.
Time outside has been shown to reduce stress and improve overall mental health, as well as developing connections to the natural world and stronger communities. The climbing community is rather small and, like many outdoor activities, has often excluded the underserved communities where these activities take place. During our program, participants will socialize, build friendships, and develop a broader, more inclusive community by accessing the amazing resource found in the Upper Peninsula. The program will focus on creating opportunities that would be otherwise unavailable to many people, fostering a love of climbing in a safe and encouraging environment.
