Every year after the fest while participants are driving home, the organizers start the planning to improve your Ice Fest experience. We are happy to announce that registration for the 2027 Michigan Ice Fest is now open! We have been working tirelessly to put together an amazing week of ice climbing and socials designed to bring our Midwest climbing community together.
WHAT’S NEW FOR 2027
A lot, that is what’s new! We have been working hard to develop exciting new programming for the 2027 event, expanding opportunities for learning, inclusion, and adventure. From specialized clinics and adaptive offerings to new community-focused experiences, the festival continues to grow to better serve climbers of all backgrounds and abilities. These new additions reflect our commitment to innovation, accessibility, and building an even stronger climbing community. New For 2027!
Expanded Women’s Programming
Designed by women, for women, our new programming will offer an empowering and supportive environment where participants can push their limits and embrace the thrill of ice climbing at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Led by experienced female guides, over the weekend, the focuses will be on building confidence, technique, and safety, all while fostering a sense of camaraderie among female climbers. Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience, Ice Fest emphasizes hands-on learning in a positive, inclusive space where women can connect with nature and each other. This programming blends adventure with empowerment, creating a memorable experience that celebrates the strength and resilience of women in the outdoors.
Let’s Break Things Workshop with the HowNot2 Guys
You have seen their popular YouTube Videos, now join Bobby & Chase from HowNot2 and let’s break some gear! Join HowNot2 Climbing for a hands-on, high-impact workshop where they put climbing gear to the ultimate test—breaking it. Watch as climbing gear is pushed beyond their limits, with real-time analysis explaining exactly how and why failures occur. This interactive session gives participants a rare insight into gear performance
Sue Nott Scholarship Reunion Gathering- Sponsored by Mountain Hardwear
The Sue Nott Scholarship celebrates 20 Years with a reunion gathering of past scholarship winners at the Michigan Ice Fest. This will be a heartfelt celebration of community, mentorship, and the enduring legacy of Sue Nott. Scholarship recipients from past and present are invited to come together alongside mentors, guides, and friends to share stories from the ice, reflect on personal growth, and honor the opportunities the scholarship has provided!
Patagonia Worn Wear Repair Clinic
Gear torn up and looking ragged? Patagonia’s @WornWear is returning to The Michigan Ice Fest! We’ll be learning how to patch minor holes and repair broken zippers. These are great skills to have and will help extend the life of your gear!
CAMP Quick Clip Challenge
The CAMP Quick Clip Challenge is a speed competition where participants use only one hand to move locking carabiners from one location to another as quickly as possible. This will test your agility and proficiency with climbing gear, with fast times winning prizes!
Expanded Adaptive Climbing Program
This year we are expanding the adaptive ice climbing program at the fest which will create new opportunities for climbers of all abilities through enhanced access, specialized instruction, and new programming designed to meet a wider range of participant needs. We are excited that we are adding additional clinics, mentorship opportunities, and adaptive-specific educational sessions. This growth will strengthen community connections, build confidence, and ensure that more individuals can experience the challenge and reward of climbing in a supportive environment.
Veterans Programming
This year we are super proud to introduce new veterans programming, creating opportunities for veterans to experience the challenge, camaraderie, and adventure of ice climbing. Through this new initiative, Michigan Ice Fest aims to build community, encourage personal growth, and share the transformative power of climbing with those who have served.
ASL Clinic
Based on the excitement of having Scott Lehmann and Shayna Unger at last year’s event, we are excited to announce we are now offering a new American Sign Language (ASL) Ice Climbing Clinic! This clinic will provide instruction through ASL communication, experienced guides, and a supportive learning environment designed to build skills and confidence on the ice. By introducing this new program, Michigan Ice Fest continues its commitment to making ice climbing accessible, welcoming, and empowering for all participants.
