Not going to lie, this weekends rain was horrible for the ice and made for some pretty miserable conditions. Some seeps are holding their own but obviously the pillars and true waterfalls are still not formed. So being the glass is half full kind of people you just have to make the best of it with what we have and the Miller’s did just that! Hopping on their SUP’s they made the paddle out to the East Channel curtains for the seasons FNA.
The lower half of the curtains were solid but the top out have not formed yet. Kudos to them for putting in the effort and getting out there for this amazing score!
The other bright side is that there is a tremendous amount of water in the ground now and today we are under a winter storm warning! Hopefully we can get some cold temperatures to hang around a bit, and if so we should have some very interesting formations to climb.

We also found that the Park service has installed much needed railings on the stairs leading to the Lakeshore Trail! This illuminates the grade 6 X rating on the approach to the Lakeshore climbs. Don’t forget to thank a Park service employee for taking care of us climbers!
At Michigan Ice we take pride in being your go to site for current ice climbing conditions for Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore as well as climbs throughout the Upper Peninsula.
