At Michigan Ice we take pride in being your go to site for current ice climbing conditions for Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore as well as climbs throughout the Upper Peninsula. Planning a trip to Pictured Rocks?  We have you covered for all the latest snow and ice conditions on all of your favorite climbs.  Check back often for updates, pictures, and trip reports!

This past weekend warm weather invaded the Munising area and many of the high flow formations like Sweet Mother Moses and Giddy Up were degrading rapidly.  Some of the pillars fed by smaller seeps were still in good shape like Big Pine Pillar, The Curtains, and Left Twin.  The good news is that a winter storm hit us today with 9 inches of fresh pow and a driving wind so we should see many of the formations rebounding quickly.

Also the State Poice issued a dangerous ice conditions report for Munising Bay. A pressure crack has formed and it’s a major safety concern, according to the Alger County Sheriff’s Department. The pressure crack in the ice is on the west side of Munising Bay extending to Grand Island. Deputies say it’s from Powell’s Point northeast to Rock 67 on Grand Island. We will be sure to let climbers know when the ice is suitable to cross over to the island.

A thaw and then a freeze is pretty much what we need to help grow the different formations to their largest sizes possible and it looks that with this forecast we just might get some growth this week!  With only 22 days until the Fest it is looking like we will have some pretty nice ice to climb.
