Ice Conditions Report- 1-19-26 Look at those Temps!

The Dryer Hose

We have been asking for cloder temperatures and boy we got them coming! This holiday weekend saw many climbers coming up and getting their taste of a Upper Peninsula winter. Lots of snow and pretty darn good ice saw folks both in the front country and in the back country. With the upcoming forecasted cold temperatures, it is only going to get better!

The lake is is slowly creeping out towards Grand Island and we are crossing our fingers that we will get a second straight year of being able to access the island during Ice Fest. Just as a reminder, it is not safe to cross the East Channel to gain access to the climbs on Grand Island. Currents make to ice very unstable and dangerous to cross there. ALWAYS access the island from the Grand Island public access point just west of town. It is not safe yet. It is best to talk with locals or contact the Sheriff to see it it is safe to cross.

At Michigan Ice we take pride in being your go to site for current ice climbing conditions for Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore as well as climbs throughout the Upper Peninsula. Planning a trip to Pictured Rocks? We have you covered for all the latest snow and ice conditions on all of your favorite climbs. We also offer a full guide service and are currently booking guided ice climbing trips for the 25/26 season! Check back often for updates, pictures, and trip reports!
