Big gloves and puffy jackets are the must have’s this week as cold temperatures are still gripping the Upper Peninsula.Reports are coming in from all corners of the U.P. as climbers are finding excellent ice conditions but sometimes brutal climbing conditions.

While the cold snap has done wonders forming many climbs that usually don’t come in this early, climbers have found fractures is some of the pillars. Michigan Ice Fest Guides backed off two pillars yesterday after finding unstable conditions.  (TGTBTU, Midnight Rambler). Caution should be used when you evaluate whether your party should climb a route or not as conditions can change daily!

Sand Point Road– All climbs in.

Lakeshore Trail– Sand Point Falls to Giddy up all climbs in. *Hi Ho Silver has a downed tree blocking the route

Lakeshore Trail– The Good, The Bad, The Ugly and Midnight Ramble have fractures in which climbers did not climb.  Dairyland is in and has been climbed.  Conditions were wet, had some hanging daggers and was very technical.

As always we will be posting the most up to date conditions so please keep checking back. The extended forecast is looking pretty darn good for continued ice making!  Big thanks goes out to climbers John and Angela Mill, Colten Moore, Jon and Liz Jugenheimer, and Angela VanWiemeersch for the updates.
