Ice Conditions 1-13-13

The weather this past weekend virtually destroyed lots of climbs located in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, so we headed out yesterday to see if we could find the “silver lining”.  With very little snow on the ground we decided to take a chance and drive down to Miners Beach (this road is usually not plowed) to see if we could find anything to swing our tools into.

Soloing the Thousand Drips

In the Miners Area we did find a few things to play on.  All waterfalls are not in and will take at least a week to build back up.  The climbs that are in are the seeps that have little or no water feeding them and they seem to be in fine shape.

Potato Patch Falls and Flaming Stink Socks

Down by the lake there was surprisingly plenty of ice to boulder on and with some colder temperature heading our way next week there will be lots of climbing available out here.

Right now conditions are poor for most climbs but we did find our silver lining.  There was some climbs to be found, the road to Miners Beach is accessible, snow was in the air, and highs in the teens are predicted for next week!
